ABC Family Switched At Birth Review

[ 2 ] December 27, 2011 |

I was given the opportunity to review the ABC Family hit series Switched at birth. It hit the streets Dec 13. I had it arrive a few days before Christmas. I was instantly hooked and can’t wait for season 2.

So those who don’t know about the show here is a quick summary. It is about two teenage girls who lives are turned upside down when they discover they were accidentally switched at birth. Bay Kennish (Vanessa Marano, Gilmore Girls) a extremely talented graffiti artist and has an edgy streak. She grew up wealthy with happily married parents. She has one older brother. Daphne Vasquez (Katie Leclerc, Veronica Mars) is an athletic teen who lost her ability to hear at a young age. She grew up with a single mother and in a working class neighborhood. When the girls worlds are brought together family bonds are tested, new romance found, and they start to learn that its who they are on the inside that matters. It is not about where they grew up.

Here is the rest of the cast

Regina Vasquez  is Daphne’s mom and is played by Constance Marie (George Lopez). She is a hair dresser and hard working. Also the birth mom of Bay.

John Kennish father of Bay and Toby. John is played by D.W. Moffett (Friday Night Lights). He  played professional baseball. He is bio dad to Daphne.

Kathrine Kennish is played by Lea Thompson (Caroline In The City). She is a stay at home mom and all about the PTA and her reputation. She is bio mom to Daphne.

Toby Kennish is played by Lucas Grabeel (High School Musical) he is Daphne’s bio brother. He is a high school student and has had his share of problems to over come.He has a gambling problem and is in a band called Guitar Face.

Emmett is played by Sean Berdy and is Daphne’s best friend. He also  cannot hear. He will use ASL and Gestures. He is nonverbal, to where as Daphne will speak.

Melody Bledsoe is played by Marlee Matlin and is the mother of Emmett. She is also Regina’s best friend.

It is a 2 disc DVD with 10 episodes. It retails for about 29.99 srp. You get Switched At Birth collectible ipod skins with purchase. It is aprox 430 mins and recommend TV-14.

I loved the story line and how relatable to families are. They take you on a full spectrum of emotions. You cry, You laugh, You want to ask the teens what are they thinking. I highly suggest this series. Don’t walk, Run to buy this DVD!

Disclosure: I received a copy of the DVD at no cost to me. All Opinions are my own.
