Christmas Traditions
Our family is big on our holiday traditions. Some from when I was a little girl and now some we have had the last 10 years of being together. Each one holds a special memory for me. Each one continues to build upon itself.
Our tree always goes up the day after thanksgiving. This year we were a few days late thanks to the movers losing our trees feet. Someone at work asked why it was so important. It is has been that way since I was little. I love that we spend Black Friday decorating the house and having coco. We start with the Christmas movies and just snuggle up on the couch to look at the tree. For me it is another family day, spending it kicking off one of our favorite times of the year.
December 6th St. Nicholas Day. The night before the children leave their shoes by the door and hope it is filled with sweet treats. My grandmother learned of this tradition when they lived in Würzburg. She did it with her kids and us grandkids. I now do it with my children. They leave their letters for Santa as well.
Christmas Eve the boys get new PJ’s and ornament before bed. They love this. It was always our favorite part too. We then all snuggle up on the couch and read The Polar Express and The Night Before Christmas.
