DOMA

DOMA for those who don’t know is the Defense Of Marriage Act signed into law with Clinton I believe. It states for Federal Purposes that Marriage is between 1 man and 1 woman. Obummer wants to repeal. This maybe the one good thing Obummer does while in office.
I grew up around the gay and lesbian community. I was 7 the first time I saw two men kiss more than what a family member would do. I remember it was Steve and Brian two guys that worked where my mom worked. I was 10 when I saw my first trans gendered person. My mom worked on a small farm that allowed the MR community to work. They also ran group homes. The man who owned Caring Community was Gay. When I saw this event I asked my mom about it. She simply stated that everyone loves differently. For me the Gay and Lesbian community were and are no different than us. Some of my best friends growing up came out to me.
I am still involved in many of their lives. I love each and everyone of them. My husband one of the biggest Homophobes I know. Has changed his views thanks to my Uncle and Friends. Did they mess with him at first absolutely and I laughed like crazy. He soon realized it was nothing to fear. I think that with media portrayals in the 80′s and 90′s they created fear. Back to my point.
I believe My Uncle and Friends all deserve the right to have a marriage certificate. They deserve the same rights we have as spouses. To make decisions for your loved one, share medical insurance and all the other entitlements the law gives us. I think this law is so unconstitutional. They have the right as American Citizens to love how they want, live how they want, speak freely. Yet they can’t get the same rights as married couples. So NOT fair. For me this is no different than woman not being able to vote, African Americans having no rights and every other in just situation there has been.
The LGBT Community deserves the same rights as the rest of us. I will support it no matter what. There is nothing worse than watching a friend of yours not being allowed in an ICU unit because they are not family. Why because there marriage was not recognized by that state. So she was not allowed to say goodbye to her spouse. Can you imagine not getting that last I Love You in? I certainly can’t
I don’t understand the prejuidce thinking from so many people. I understand the faith based belifes being I am a christian but I don’t agree. My children are being rasied that you respect everyone. I don’t care if you are white with purple polka dots and yellow stripes. You will have our repect until you do something to destroy that. I think we all need to learn a little more Tolerance. I want to hear from those of you who oppose. I want to know why. Due so respectfully.
