Georgia Aquarium

On Sunday our day started out at the Georgia Aquarium. What a site it was. I think the whole family left in awe. My husbands words were ” This aquarium makes mystic aquarium look like a kiddie pool”. I so agree.

We went in and had a private behind the scenes tour. You will see that in the slide show posted a bit further down in the review. It was so neat to see the tops of the tank. While we were up there they had someone scuba diving in the tanks and you could hear them talking back and forth. Our kids were in awe. At one point we were by the penguins. You will see one was shedding feathers and getting ready to grow new ones in. Funny looking. He was pretty embarrassed. Did you know penguins have knees? Did you know they can have knee surgery? No OK me either but apparently they do. The nice tour guide Janan filled us in. Did you know they can do surgery on fish? No really they can, just another cool fact we learned that day.

We watched the Whalesharks get fed. That was really neat. The workers get in boats. They were dumping the food near its mouth. So neat to watch. They are really pretty creatures. They get to be about as big as a small bus. 65 feet. My kids couldn’t get that image out of their heads. They were trying to grasp how big that really was. The Largest tank holds 6 million gallons of water. Yes you read right 6 million tons.

We enjoyed all the touch tanks. Well I should say I loved the touch tanks. We got to touch sharks, sting rays, starfish, crabs, shrimp and more. Tons of cool fish to play with. I love that they give the fish time outs to let them rest.

The kids did a frog craft. It took the frog from a tadpole to complete frog. They thought that was really cool. The guy running the project was really knowledgeable. I don’t think there wasn’t a section he didn’t know about. AMAZING! I meant to write the name down of this fish. All I could think of was Duce Bigalow movie. I love how pretty this fish is.

I think the part we were most in awe was the tunnel where you can walk through or get on the people mover and the fish are swimming over your head. It was breath taking. We got off at the end of the people mover and worked our way back up. We repeated this like 10 times. When we went around the corner finally there was a beautiful view of the tank again. We watched for a good 45 minutes. It was a great way to end our visit.

I encourage you all to take the tour. It is was really informative. Leave yourself plenty of time for your visit of the World’s Largest Aquarium. It is so worth the time and adventure. We can’t wait to visit again soon.
