Köln Trip

We went to Köln on Friday and loved it. My first impressions was it reminded me of NYC with all its side streets and high end stores. We rounded the corner by the Bahnhof (train station) and it got first glimpse of the Kölner Dom that we were in search of.  I have stared at the pictures for months in our travel books and put the address in the GPS. I realized it was only 1 hour and 20 minutes away. Perfect! Told Paul we were loading up and getting out of the bubble we call Wiesbaden. I just needed a break from here. So back to Köln.

The kids were in heaven running the streets and jumping in puddles. Dancing to the street performers. There was on street performer in black head to toe. Paul and I realized this. The kids thought Statue. Mommy and Daddy hand  Nate a .50 cent euro coin.  Well I will let the pictures speak for themselves.

Oh Shit it moves

Poor kid Paul and I did nothing but laugh till we cried. So much so we made him do it two more times. I am sure I will be paying for years of therapy. We moved further down the plaza to the Cologne Cathedral and found an Angel standing out there.Nate hesitant but Blake loved it.

This cathedral is massive and breath taking. I can’t put into words how truly stunning this church is. At first I felt funny taking pictures inside but glad I did. This is something I want to remember forever. The stain glass windows impressive.The ceilings are massive. The smell is old and musty.

The Alter and Organ. The organ is something to hear and experience. The music just flows right into your soul.

The floors were tiled and every little detail was in place. So pretty!

The outside massive and detailed. I can only assume it took years to build. We did the crypt as well but that was creepy.

We ended our day with a picnic in the Pedestrian Zone. We walked and window shopped some more. It was a great free day. Only thing spent was gas. Which wasn’t that much. I love that everything is pretty much with in driving distance. We loved it and can’t wait to go back. Köln is huge and just beautiful. It was almost like being home. The busy streets, the pretzel vendors, the street performers and even some of the crazy outfits. The kids loved it as well. If you are stationed in Germany or coming a visit this is a MUST SEE.
