The Help Movie Review
I received a copy of the Help on Blue Ray. I loved the Book but I loved the movie more. The movie is based off Kathryn Sockette’s best seller. Her movok comes to life with a phenomenal cast that includes Emma Stone, Viola Davis, Octavia Spencer and Bryce Dallas Howard.
The help is about the courageous and and empowering story about very different and extraordinary women in the 1960′s. They were from Jackson Mississippi and they formed an unlikely friendship around this secret writing project. Emma Stones’s charecter Skeeter breaks society’s rules and puts the help and herself at risk. They are working on creating change. Skeeter goes against what she was raised to believe and what her friends believe to find her own voice. Viola Davis plays Abiileen Clark a women who dreams one day of having more than she has been given . Octavia Spencer plays Minny. (Minny was one of my favorite characters) Minny Jackson is sassy and tough. This is all a disguise for the pain and fear she faces each day.Bryce Dallas Howard breathes life into catty Jackson socialite Hilly Holbrook and Jessica Chastain brings care and humor as Celia Foote . Celia is a kind housewife living on the outside of town and she longs to fit in. Sissy Spacek plays Hilly Holbrooks mom and is the ever so sassy mother.
The Helps is directed by Tate Tyler and co produced by Michael Barnathan and Chris Columbus. The Screen play was written by Tate Taylor.
I loved this movie. It made me laugh and it made me cry. It also showed how life being black in Jackson Mississippi dunning the 1960′s was harder than it needed to be. That there were few women who worked hard to make the changes necessary for all to become equal counterparts. I loved how Aibileen said this line over and over to Mae Mobley the baby she cared for “you is smart, you is kind, you is important” She worked hard to make that baby feel loved.
This Blue Ray combo Pack provided the audience a chance to delve deeper into the movie. It includes never before seen bonus features that include The Making of The Help. and a look at how life changing experience this film is. It also has additional bonus that include “In their own words A tribute to maid of Mississippi. It is an honest observation of life in the South from real life maids. Tate Tylers childhood care taker Carol Lee talks.
I want everyone to go out and see this movie at least once. It is AMAZING! Hands down my favorite 2011 movie.
